Bupa Care Services - BUPA EMPLOYEES SCOOP COMMUNITY CHAMPION AWARDS

BUPA EMPLOYEES SCOOP COMMUNITY CHAMPION AWARDS

Wednesday, 22 April 2009

Employees from across Bupa were recently invited to attend the business’ second annual Community Champion Awards.

A number of Horsforth based Care Services’ staff were recognised for their dedication and commitment to making a difference in their local communities. They were presented with their awards by Bupa’s chairman Lord Leitch.

Siobhan Drane, community affairs consultant, was presented with the Gold Ambassador Award for her individual and outstanding commitment to community activity. Siobhan works with national charities such as the Prince’s Trust, organises employee volunteering and fundraising and project manages the company’s international community challenges.

Tim Brooke and Paul Chapman were both named Community Champions of the Year for creating Activ-eat, a health education programme for primary school children which encourages them to eat a healthy balanced diet and lead healthier lifestyles. This imaginative and successful community initiative is now managed by Siobhan Drane.

Twelve people from the Horsforth office took third place for Team of the Year. The team planted and maintained sections of a 1.5 mile hedgerow at a formerly derelict allotment site as part of the National Cares Action Day. This work had a positive impact on the community and addressed a local need.

Siobhan Drane says “We are all delighted as this is the first time that so many employees from the Horsforth office have been recognised for the fantastic work they do in helping our local communities. It’s wonderful that Activ-eat, our healthy eating programme has been so successful and we’re looking forward to delivering this to the children of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School next month.”
